Using Foil Insulation
For the best performance it needs to be fitted with a small gap either side. This allows the principles of conduction and reflection to work in at their optimum levels, and to maximise its potential as a moisture barrier the seams of the material must be taped.
As mentioned above this kind of installation will use less material as reflective foil should only be used in single sheets. Using more than one thickness will not improve performance.
It can be used all over the home: in the side walls and roof as a radiant barrier and reduce draughts – used in the roof space it will help stop heat build up in the summer and reduce heat loss in winter. Also, to insulate your water heater and provide a more constant water temperature which will improve boiler efficiency. Another use is install foil insulation under a wood floor to act as a radiant barrier as well as preventing moisture entering your ground floor spaces
